DiaMedica : First Patient in Phase IIa Clinical Trial for DM-99

August 11, 2008 – DiaMedica Inc. (TSX-V:DMA), a drug discovery and clinical development company focused on a novel approach to treating type 2 diabetes, announces enrollment of the first patient in the phase II proof of concept clinical trial with DM-99, the Company’s third drug candidate to enter phase II human trials.

The single-blinded clinical trial being conducted in the European Union, will demonstrate DM-99’s effectiveness at controlling blood glucose levels in 40 type 2 diabetes patients with HbA1c levels over 7.5%, after they have consumed a standardized meal. Change in insulin and/or glucose levels is the study’s primary endpoint. Each patient will be tested for both the effects of treatment with DM-99 as well as a placebo, and will therefore serve as their own control in this cross over study. DiaMedica : pre-IND FDA Guidance on DM-71

May 14, 2008 – DiaMedica Inc. (TSX-V:DMA), a drug discovery and development company focused on novel treatments for Type 2 diabetes, today announced that it has received feedback from the U.S. Food and Drug and Administration (FDA) on its pre-IND filing for DM-71, the Company’s lead compound.

The FDA has recommended a standard 90 day in vitro toxicology study comparing the combination product with each active component in separate arms to support the proposed phase IIb trial. ...the twenty patient single-blind trial will demonstrate DM-83’s level of effectiveness in controlling blood glucose and insulin levels in Type 2 diabetic patients after they have consumed a standard meal. Changes in insulin and glucose levels are the study’s primary endpoints. Each patient will test both the effects of DM-83 as well as a placebo and therefore serve as their own control in this crossover study. All patients have now completed treatment and last patient is expect to complete the study in the second quarter with results to be analyzed and released shortly thereafter. DiaMedica, DM-99 Shown to Improve Glucose Metabolism in Pre-clinical Study

February 11, 2008 – DiaMedica Inc. (TSX-V:DMA), a clinical stage biotechnology company developing novel treatments for various stages of type 2 diabetes, is pleased to announce positive pre-clinical data for DM-99, its third clinical drug candidate. Results demonstrated, with statistical significance, greater glucose metabolism in normal animals treated with DM-99 when compared to untreated animals.
The study was conducted in the Wasserman Laboratory at the Diabetes Research and Training Center at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. In the study, the amount of glucose being metabolized was measured using the well established hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp model. Specifically, animals treated with DM-99 were able to use 41% more glucose than an untreated animal (p<0.04) during the first sixty minutes of the study...
